Alejandro Otaola photographed with his Wave painting in New York City, by Sean Patrick Watters. completed January of 2021

The Wave.

about

New painting by visual artist Alejandro Otaola is the culmination of months of experimentation around a narrative subject, in cooperation with an esteemed mentor in abstract expressionism.

Subject -The Wave- has been a reoccurring theme in Alejandro’s dreams for the past year, which clash a biblical force barreling from the horizon. These dreams are unusual in their vivid and consistent characteristics, featuring a storm at sunset, a beautiful woman, and a wave big enough to swallow a building on the coast.

This piece came to be after extensive work in developing a visual language to portrays narrative stories, in a dynamic, elegant and organic fashion, toeing the line between abstraction and a traditional story. Featuring a strong crashing wave, pushed by the strength in color pallet which play on the light of sunset, the depth of the sea and overwhelming power of nature.
